About Havhøst
Havhøst is at the forefront of a movement to change our blue food system from degenerative to regenerative. We can no longer base our food production on an approach to nature that degrades the ecosystems we rely on.
With a regenerative approach to harvesting edible resources from the ocean, we create a world where food production goes hand in hand with active restoration of marine flora and fauna. And where environmental and climate concerns are inextricably linked to strong local communities.
We bring together more than 30 marine gardens growing seaweed, mussels and oysters - and we support new initiatives that promote the regenerative approach. We run a national education programme that invites children and young people to take an active part in the blue transition.
But we're also trying to inspire a new generation of blue entrepreneurs to seize the opportunities of the regenerative approach and turn it into local businesses that can grow, process, develop and sell the crops that point the way to the future.
A brain child of Havhøst created to further spread the work of Havhøst in other countries, Cool Blue Future promotes community-led regenerative ocean farming through EU-backed projects like Cool Blue and Cool Blue Baltic. These initiatives focus on low-trophic cultivation, ecosystem restoration, and local job creation. By emphasising education, community activism, and business development, they aim to transform ocean farming into a regenerative, community-driven industry.
